How to Lose Weight in Your 40s

Losing weight, now when I talk about losing weight to my doctor friends who happen to be mostly guys they don’t get it. Look I’ve gained 40 pounds when I had my daughter Haley and two years after Haley was born I tore my acl and it took me 10 months to recover. Thank Goodness I knew exactly what to do otherwise me being in my 40s it would have been next to impossible, so make sure you follow these three tips. Number one, please stop skipping meals. Now it’s all fun and games back in the day when you were doing three day cleanses or now you’re doing fasting for 24, 48 or even 72 hours. It doesn’t make sense in our 40s because our bodies are complex we’ve had children we have genetics we have aging we have hormones it just doesn’t work like it used to. So make sure that I prefer you to eat meals every three to four hours but you have to make healthy choices. Tip number two, you have to build muscle. Now a lot of us and I’m included like to do running and spinning and all of these exercises that are more cardio but you really need to lift weights and do weight resistance exercises to build that muscle. Muscle is what drives your metabolism and if you don’t build guess what all it does is it goes down and you are burning less even though you didn’t change a single thing with your diet. And finally tip number three, you have to eat protein. Now a lot of us are still exploring what should we eat, should we turn vegetarian, should we do plant-based? Now again all of this is important but at the end of the day you still need protein and protein is what helps your muscle repair and rebuild so that you can drive your metabolism up and burn calories all day long.
