Gaining Weight While Eating Less?

Hey guys,

It’s Dr. Angela, America’s transformational weight loss doctor. And in this post, we’re going to talk about why cutting calories will actually make you gain weight in the long run.

Reason number one, while yes, cutting calories may help you lose weight, you’re going to be losing body fat, but you’ll also be losing water and muscle, and that causes your metabolism to slow down. And as soon as you go back to normal eating, you’ll actually be burning less calories.

Reason number two, if you’re not eating and if you’re not hungry, guess what? Your body is in storage mode, and if you don’t give your body what it needs, it’s just going to keep storing and storing. So you wonder why eating just one meal a day actually causes you to gain another pound, five pounds, 10 pounds? Your body’s just going to be stuck in storing rather than burning mode.

And finally, reason number three, cutting calories for some individuals actually is a sign of stress. If you don’t sleep well, if you have a stressful job, a lot of responsibilities, and you’re cutting calories, that is a radar on your body to produce cortisol, which is that evil hormone that does the exact opposite of what we want it to do. It causes you to store body fat and lose muscle.

So, cutting calories is going to put you in the stress-induced mode, and all of a sudden, you’re just going to be gaining instead of losing.
